Adverse reaction to food can be brought on by food allergies (e.g., to eggs, milk, soy, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish) or an intolerance to certain foods (e.g., to gluten, dairy, fructose, or yeast).  Reactions can range from unpleasant feelings to serious illness.

Food allergies and intolerances are widespread: up to 2 million of children younger than six years experience food intolerances, for example, and peanut and/or tree nut allergy affects about three million Americans.

Searching the internet provides a wealth of information on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of these problems.

American Heart Association Certification.  The distinctive symbol on a product indicates that it has been screened and proven to meet the American Heart Association’s certification criteria to be low in saturated fat and cholesterol for healthy people over age 2.  Certified Thumann’s Products:

Gluten Free Certification. Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) provides an independent service to supervise gluten-free food production according to a consistent, defined, science-based standard that is confirmed by field inspections, in order to achieve heightened consumer confidence and safety. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and other foods derived from these grains, and can cause many people with a digestive disease or sensitivity to become ill. Certified Thumann’s Products: Thumann’s deli meats are the only deli meats certified gluten-free. All of Thumann’s deli meats, except for deep-fry frankfurters that contain wheat in their casing that aids in the frying process, are gluten free.
